    Gent or Neon Sun? A difficult choice for a day with lots of meetings in the office.     Time to get off the Green Tea train for the rest of the week and use some things I haven't used in a bit before our Shaving Overlords dictate our daily lives for the month of June. I was torn between a Bay Rum soap and YRP, and YRP won out today. Such a great shave and not an ounce of feedback from the Baker Street splash. I'd say that's a good way to start the work week.

    Coffee is a requirement to start any work day, or any day for that matter. Once that's done, it's time to figure out how to unf$%@ a project that got FUBAR and has just a wee bit of financial impact. No pressure on a Tuesday. Try to enjoy your day and remember to be kind to one another.

    First pass was rough due to lazy lathering, but I made up for it with some effort in the second pass. It’s been a while since I’ve used Black Ship, so I forgot it takes more work than other more premium bases do. This scent is pleasant and evocative of summer to me, without getting tropical. Then the splash came, which is just bananas and sunscreen. No complaints.

    Happy Tuesday! Back to work today and trying out Baudelaire after the stay last week. I did not expect to like this - off the puck was that green note Will pours by the bucket into too many scents. I was not wrong, if I didn’t have experience with these type of fragrances, would never believe that someone deliberately made my shave smell like I gathered moldy lawnclippings and leaf litter from my shed and stirred them into soap AND there were people paying money to shave with the stuff. Releasing something like this, a smell that doesn’t even qualify as a fragrance in my estimation, while Lavender was being permanently discontinued? I question the thought processes involved here 😬

    A most excellent shave this morning! Went for 3 passes this time after confirming that indeed 2 passes doesn't shave quite as close as two passes with the Overlander. A very impressive razor. The handle is a nice short length that fits well in hand and the razor feels easy to use. I shave a bit steeper with closed comb razors and I expect the blade longevity to suffer as a result of the steep shave angle and less blade support vs the Overlander as well; but this is a very good razor for me.  

    The only question is: Is it different enough from the Overlander to warrant needing to keep another razor that shaves similarly? I guess if I'm doing three passes vs two on the Overlander this is closer; not sure about three and three, though the Overlander does seem to be less efficient per pass once you go beyond two passes. So maybe?  

    Brought back out the Gratiot League Square after failing to commit to killing the tub. I think at least the attempt taught me that I'm not as enamoured by the scent as I initially thought. Sadly it's probably too late to try and send off smushes of it to people for the "Where's the beef?" day.

    A good shave to start things off for the day. DRH seems to be generally not well regarded. This is an old puck that has always worked damn good for me. My minimalist son used a puck as his one and only for a year of nearly daily shaves. I can think of worse soaps to use.

    I bought two of these balms when they were first introduced. I killed one and am just starting on this one. This is the original formula that has since been updated. I didn't care for this stuff at first. I figured out I was using too much and it works best if my face is damp when applying the balm.

    This brush is pretty much broken in. I've recorded 35 shaves with it, but I think there were a few shaves I forgot to record. I haven't used any other brush since I bought it at the Maggard Meet. The best way I can describe it is to maybe say it's kind of a cross between a 610 and an SOC. That may not be accurate, but that is what comes to mind. I'm pleased with it.

    Back from the wilderness. This seemed like an appropriate set since we arrived (after getting caught in a speed trap 30 minutes from our destination) had about two hours then the weather went nuts. At one point we were flanked by tornado warnings to our north and south only about 15 miles apart (with confirmed tornados for both). Thankfully that was as close as it ever got. We had a downpour then a quiet night. Took had a good meal, took in the clean air, played some board games, then came home. Hopefully next time we get a chance to go down it’ll be a little longer and dryer (and I remember about the speed trap.)

    I was in a hurry to shave, and brain-farted thinking today was Wednesday. I grabbed the first SW sample I saw and started building lather. It wasn't until I finished shaving that I realized today is Tuesday. Woops! Guess I'll have to break out Tabac tomorrow!

    My caveman nose has difficulty coming to terms with Carpathia. I want to like it, but my nose doesn't agree. I think I'll focus on finishing this sample after LG and then move on to SW scents my nose likes. Happy shaving and have a wonderful day.

    I got some Gratiot League Square in, and used it for soap and splash, and later EDT. Also brought the Game Changer out of hiding for a great shave.

    Wonderful combination. very comfy, but close cutting, taking down a couple days' growth with no problem.

    Razor and Blade Performance/Comfort Rating: 4 out of 5 (Very Good)

    ䷀ Soap Notes

    Them: "tobacco, leather, rose, clove, nutmeg, sandalwood, vetiver, vanilla, musk, bergamot, and amber"

    Scent: "I can't describe this thing. Just awesome and manly." That was what I said about it after I used it for the first time. The notes are just so well blended that sometimes they don't really stand on their own for me to easily pick out.

    The leather and tobacco are easily perceived. I got a touch of the vanilla and citrus. But the vanilla was in check, not making it any kind of gourmand scent, IMO. just a wonderful accent, just like the rose and amber. I'm also glad the clove is subdued and difficult to pick out.

    So, In my opinion, this is a glorious piece of engineering, especially suited for fall and winter. Now, because the soap is not as lingering or strong as the salve, I could shave with it every single day of the year.

    Scent Strength: 6/10 nicely available to smell when shaving.

    Lather... an older soap, and a dense brush with soft tips means you have to load for a little longer than I did today, to get that creaminess on the third pass.

    However, I got a super slick slurry for all 3 passes for great performance.

    Hydration: Wet End of Perfect (for me) + = 4 passes of lather

    Bowl: No Bowl

    Very dense, but the soft tips made it comfortable. It would have liked a little longer of a load.

    During the Shave Feel:

      Cheeks: Near BBS - About as close as I'll ever get
      Neck: Few hairs are showing some tip length (with most being cut flush)

    I was always a fan of JPG Le Male and I finished off a bottle last year and did not buy another because I have enough. But when I smelled Prom King the first time I used it, I was reminded of how much of a fan I was. Then about a week ago I grabbed the splash and was reminded again, but that time I grabbed my phone and ordered a new bottle.

    I can’t say enough about the knot in this brush. I know because of how soft it is with it -23765 backbone that a lot of people won’t like it, but I honestly get the best face lathers from the brush. It’s making me want another one.
